October 26, 2006

Well, well, well here we are speeding along at a couple of hundred miles an hour over the wonderful country side of Japan. It is a very beautiful day, the sun is shinning and it is a very pleasant 22 degrees centigrade. We have a show tonight in Hiroshima.

It’s not a big gig only holds 1800 billies. It will be the smallest crowd that Maiden has played to in over 20 years. I could be wrong; Jan thinks that we played to a smaller audience on the No Prayer tour somewhere in Scotland!!!! Anyway, we are playing this smaller venue, should be a blast.

Last night we played the Budokan in Tokyo City. What a great night. Only problem for me was that I was very poorly. I had a furious cold hit me. Fortunately I saw a doctor at the venue and he gave me a B12 shot and that got me through the show. I was feeling pretty low I can tell you. Went on a course of antibiotics and I’m feeling a lot perkier today.

So the show went great, all the fans loved the new material and were right with us from the off. I made a couple of woopsies and had to pace me self so that I didn’t run out of steam.

After the show I headed back to the hotel. We were done by 9:20pm. Thing about playing in Japan is that you go on stage early so you are finished early. It was nice for me last night as it meant I was tucked up in bed nice and early. When I got back to the hotel I ordered a wee spot of room service, a nice bowl of corn soup with a small green salad with Japanese dressing. Lovely!!!! I was lights out by 11pm.

Didn’t sleep so well. I still have the dreaded ‘Kin jet lag. Everybody is in lar-lar land with it. It’s so strange that you can’t sleep when you want to. I have had a really hard time this journey. I’m waking up every two hours it’s weird. Oh well part of the great tapestry of touring life. I would not change it for the world.

Had a nice time since arriving. Been out to the Hobgoblin pub for a nice piece of fish and chips, and a pint, not as good as Toffs in Muswell Hill but good enough for being 11,000 miles away.

Well, I have to go know as I have an interview to do with Geoff Barton. Back in a while.

Ok that didn’t take long. Had a wee interview to do with Geoff Barton for Metal Hammer. He had a bunch of questions that some of you hooligans had sent in. Not bad!
Some pretty good questions there.

Well, I’m done as I said so it only leaves me time to say farewell.

I will of course be back tomorrow with me words on the show and a tale or two from the road. Oh I forgot to tell you we have had Ross Halfin with us for a couple of days. He has been taking smudges of the show last night and some with us on the express.
He just got off the train in Osaka and is heading back to Tokyo to get on a plane back to blighty. He gave me a copy of his new book ‘Maiden’ photographs by Ross Halfin. It is brilliant so if you get a chance have a laugh and go buy it; there are some fantastic pics of us that you may not have seen before. We all had such a laugh last night as we remembered some of our finer fashion moments!!
What a laugh we had!!!!!

Also we have our very friendly record rep out with us a Mr. William Luff. William works for EMI. Bless him he’s a great guy and we are happy he’s out for his first visit to Japan with us.
Thanks William.
I would like to take this moment to thank my very dear friend Lisa Goldsmith from Virgin Atlantic. She is an absolute Angel. She had sorted out a return ticket for me from London to Florida so that I can get to see me son and misses after our trip here is over.
I’ll get to be home for 4 nights before I have to start the European leg of the tour.

Oh, I need to say a massive THANK YOU to all of our fans that made this tour THE best that we have ever played in North America. You guys and girls made it an extra special memory for all of us. Thank you, America and Canada.

Well I’m going to go now as I need a wee siesta. I’m going to shut me peepers for a few winks.

Lots of love to you all.
God bless you and stay safe.
