Caveman's Diary #15

Another log.
All of these statements are true: 1. Old women with mobile phones look stupid. 2. It's always a bit scary stroking a horse. 3. Nicko laid down a vocal today. As Bruce spent most of the day M.I.A we could only think of one man who could grab the stick and land a tricky vocal at Dickinson airport. Just when you think things couldn't get weirder we found our-self's knee deep in funky jam. 'Well pop me in the oven and bake me for forty minutes!!!'. NICKO McBRAIN HAS LEFT THE BUILDING. Special Brew..

Hi - I take no responsiblity for the statements of the Brew above, I let them, as my two able bodied assistants, make an uncensored overview of the situation, and it makes for a wonderful environment in the studio. Little pics of Nicko composing at right for your pleasure today.

Yesterday: we started the day trying to recut this tune of Steve and Dave's which we were busy with on Monday, but Bruce wasn't in, and the guys found it difficult to play without hearing the vocals. So, ... we took a break and they had a jam, a very rare occurence for the band, and they got way funky too!!!!!! MAIDEN!!!!!! Yes sirree Bob!! And I recorded them, 4 jams in total, so look for them as B-sides somewhere down the track, and if you think they just throw-away tracks, you are mistaken - they may not be 'songs' as such, but you'll get a rare insight into their musicianship. Things got even sillier when Nicko (whilst doing some voices for a video-thingy) sang over a take of the previous day's song, without knowing the melody, and it is a riot!!! Finally Bruce arrived about at four, and we all got serious and nailed the track, as everyone was well warmed up, and then we all saw Nicko off with a bottle of vino at a neighborhood pub, once frequented by one Jimi Hendrix of Seattle when he lived in London.

And the album is now tracked with all the main guitars, drums and bass, and so we begin the work of putting all the subtelties and dynamics into the songs - as well as sorting out lead vocals, background vocals, guitar solos and keyboard supports to highlight different sections of the songs where they're needed to keep the record from becoming two dimensional! And that's it for today. No band in today as I'm going to go over everything and see where we are are what we need, so I'll update you when there's something to report. On a personal level, the intense workout and nutrition program is working well (3 hours in the gym/day, so you'd expect that!), and I've dropped 10lbs in just over two weeks, and feeling great!

Peace ...... Kev The Cave!
