…It was left to Marilyn Manson, the second headliner on the main stage, to be the anti-Incubus.

The lipstick-wearing legend reaffirmed his superstar status – pulling out all the stops with a performance that was half freak show, half West End show!

He even marched around the stage on a pair of gigantic stilts, as he banged out standout tracks Mobscene, Disposable Teens and Beautiful People.

Marilyn must be a hard act to follow but if there’s ever been a band to give it their best shot it’s Iron Maiden.

The vintage Brit rockers put on a spectacular show.

Frontman Bruce Dickinson was genuinely enthusiastic to be headlining the festival and told the crowd it was backstage at Reading that he was first asked to join the band.

Highlights were Run To The Hills, Number Of The Beast and the moment the band’s undead mascot Eddie put in an appearance as a giant 20ft high monster with flashing red eyes!

The show seemed a tad rehearsed, but that’s probably not surprising considering this year alone they’ve played to a whopping 500,000 fans at more than 20 European shows.

Iron Maiden are untouchable and provided a thrilling finale to a truly thrilling festival.
